Michelle Branch files for divorce from Patrick Carney after arrest, cheating claim

Less than a week after she accused Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney of infidelity and was detained for domestic violence, singer-songwriter Michelle Branch formally filed for divorce from him.

Branch filed for divorce in Davidson County, Tennessee, on Friday, according to court documents obtained Monday by the Los Angeles Times.

Nashville police were summoned to the couple's home early on Thursday morning for a probable domestic dispute, and Branch was taken into custody.

According to the criminal court document, Branch informed law enforcement officers that she and Carney "are experiencing marital troubles and had been squabbling."

As their disagreement heated up, Branch acknowledged hitting Carney "one to two times" in the face.

Law enforcement investigators also spoke with Carney, who said that Branch had slapped him, but who had no obvious wounds.

"The ground has been entirely torn out from under me, and I now need to decide how to proceed. I ask for discretion and consideration because I have such little children.
